Trail snow-covered at times – Gear and expertise recommended

Both our 5th ascent to this peak but both our 1st time doing it in snow. Started the hike at 34deg F with a high of 46deg. We started hiking at 6:40am. The trail started as dirt and in less than a mile in, patches of snow/ ice started appearing and it's when we decided to put our microspikes/ yaktrax on. The hiking poles were very useful too! Snow got thicker and thicker as we got higher in elevation especially the last 1.5miles to the summit. There, the trails are completely covered in snow so we just used our downloaded AllTrails map to navigate. Worked our way literally uphill to get to the top. Thanks to the foot/ shoeprints left by other hikers :). It was difficult going up and dangerous in some spots. We were so happy and victorious when we reached the summit at 11am. It's freezing and the wind was blow-ing! But, we were wowed by the views of the cloud cover. It looked like a sea of clouds! Wow…wow…wow!!!

We stayed at the summit for some good 40mins- had our snacks and soaked in the views. Going downhill was as difficult as going uphill. Postholed once and slipped twice. Haha! Reached the parking lot at 3pm. Passed by Grizzly Cafe in Wrightwood and grabbed the much-deserved cheeseburgers. I felt really beat up but we both agreed this was the “funnest” hike so far.
