Hiked on February 20, 2022. Logged in 15.5 miles, 10 hours and 45 minutes. This was part of our 3Peaks-in-3Days-Road Trip…being from San Diego 🙂

Day hike parking pass can be purchased in the office/store adjacent to parking areas. We parked behind the white barn (here, already had gorgeous views). No hiking permit needed.

We took the ‘clockwise' route: from Dunn Ave to Monument Trail, Hobbs Road, Blue Ridge Road, then cut through Jackass Trail, then on to Poverty Flat Road, Manzanita Point Road until you hit Dunn Ave again. Definitely a lot difficult and challenging than Rose Peak (hehe), thanks to its more steeper grades and vastly exposed areas. Phew! The “Mind Over Matter” mode was certainly activated!! :-)) And YES…it did help!! Trekking poles, lots of water/hydration, snacks/lunch, sunscreen, layerings & humorous stories were a must. Mostly cloudy & chilly breeze picked up at the approach to the peak and beyond (mostly). It did warmed up a bit while on Hobbs Road & approaching Blue Ridge Road. There were a few creek crossings but easily crossed over. Taking Jackass Trail was a treat to our eyes and heart…those wildflowers & birds' tweeting & green lush along a single track path were just beautiful and charming. The other thing that made an impression was the road leading to the trailhead; winding road, nice residential houses, views of the cities and mountain ranges.
