Mt. Diablo via Mitchell Canyon is my first peak for this challenge. I set out on a Saturday morning…which happened to be my second day of summer break…I am an elementary school principal.

I knew the hike was a distance of 13-ish miles, but I regularly run half marathons, complete Spartans, etc… I didn't anticipate too much struggle…BUT, 13 miles hiking with an elevation like Mt. Diablo is different.

I was able to accomplish the task in approx. 5.5 hours, which I feel successful about.

It was a somewhat lonely hike, I hiked alone…and I only encountered a few people along the way.

Overall the hike was good and I feel accomplished in my task. Hydration pack was a MUST and I am glad that I could refill at the summit. It was a beautiful day and not too hot.

Looking forward to my next hike.
