I hiked with my husband, and we started out on the 8:45 Aerial Tramway.  We stopped at the ranger station to fill out our permit.  The ranger gave us a map and explained the directions.  His specific directions about a new trail, not on the map, explains why our Gaia map did not match the directions given by the ranger.  We followed the Gaia route up to the peak.  We met a ranger checking permits on the way up the trail.  That was a first.  The hike was tough towards the top, mostly because I hiked with a cold.  My hands started to get cold as we neared the top, and I should have put my gloves on when I first noticed.  I didn't put them on until we reached the peak and never could get them warmed up for the rest of the hike.  The view was spectacular.  We took a few pictures, ate lunch, and headed down.  It was a cold hike down.  We stopped to add more layers.  We took the new trail down rather than following the Gaia map, which was a much better route.  We finished the last part of the hike in the dark.  We were dreading the long walk back up to the tram, but it wasn't as bad as we anticipated.  We were less than thrilled about the hour-long wait for the tram ride down, but that didn't turn out to be too bad either.  The tram operator was fun and got everyone to participate in some sing-alongs on the ride down.  The night view was beautiful.  One more hike left!  🙂
