What a gorgeous and fun day! It was absolutely perfect weather for this hike – sunny, very small breeze, perfect temps. The trail is great right now – there are a few snow fields but nothing that throws you off too far from the trail or is difficult to pass. Perfect snow for sliding down!!

Definitely a rocky, steep, scree-filled climb, but the magnificent views and seeing Leadville and Turquoise Lake appear to the west made the climb all the more worth it.

If you have a Jeep or other off road vehicle, definitely choose it. The road to the trailhead is rough (we drove our Jeep) but there was a Mini Countryman that made it all the way to the trailhead, so I suppose anything is possible.

My Garmin didn’t agree that this is a 14er but thankfully my phone compass did.

    1. Thank you, it was an absolutely perfect day! So far we’ve gotten lucky with perfect weather days. Next up is Elbert! My mom, me, and our trail mascot, Gudrun the Gator.
