Mount Wilson is supposed to be the ‘starter' hike, but I haven't been able to do it because of crowding and closures. I finally decided to piece together a route from Redbox on Gabrielino to Kenyon Devore. Lesson learned – if I route isn't on All Trails, there's probably a reason.

The first few miles on Gabrielino were lovely. Mosquitoes were still biting early, but otherwise it was quite nice. I should have turned back after I encountered the first downed oak tree at about mile 3. Kenyon Devore was definitely type A fun. If your thing is bush-wacking, climbing over/under/around about 20 downed trees, rattlesnakes, and about a million bugs, this trail is for you! Oh and there's poison oak everywhere, so wear pants and long sleeves.

This was a tough one. I feel like I really earned that 6th pack!

  1. Mt Sufferfest is such a great name for this hike! LOL I’ve done the standard route twice before and it is a grind for sure. If you ever decide to do it again, go in the fall or winter when it’s cold, the bugs will be gone. But definitely wait until the snack bar at the tope reopens 🙂 The Frito pie is amazing.
