Started at 8:30 am from Matt Davis Trail at Stinson Beach. Passed Pantoll Campground onwards to West Point Inn via Old Stage Road. Took the Old Railroad Grade up to East Peak. Almost the same route coming back, except took the Upper Fern Creek Trail through a beautiful ravine.

It was foggy, misty and wet on the way up, and it seemed we would get no views (disappointed already half way up!). But it started clearing up as we passed West Point Inn. Did not see 360 deg clear view, huge blankets of fog was rolling into the SF side (see posted pictures). The route we took passes through quite some variety of terrain and vegetation. Started with wet, misty, almost rainforest like feeling with lots of ferns, moss and slushy mud, some cute little streams and tons of bridges. Some parts felt very California like with dry grass and rolling hills. Around Pantoll its again a lot of Redwoods, but was not as misty and wet. Old Stage Road was not super exciting to hike up, exciting part was see the mountain bikers speed downhill. I do recommend the Upper Fern Creek Trail, its narrow and it was nice to hike down into the valley, looking a the fog rolling in.

Saw some turkeys on the way back and a coyote in the middle of the street while driving back. Apart from that not much exciting wild life.

Total about ~18 miles, 8.5 hours. Back to Stinson Beach at 5ish pm. Last 20 mins were very painful for the knees, I was kinda done with walking at that point 😉 But they say, Pain is what makes you Feel Alive, and I sure do feel alive and and extremely happy today!!! (on a Hiker's High all day today!)
