The Chantry Flats parking lot was 25% occupied when I departed for the Mt Wilson hike at 8:05 am.

I did the side trip to the 60’ Sturtevant Falls which had lots of water flowing over it. Be interesting to see what it is like mid summer. Really worth the stop. From there I took the trail that goes over the top of the falls. It’s narrow so watch your step.

It’s a gentle climb which slowly works on you as you climb. Two miles from the summit it gets a little steeper so unless you area current or past college track star it’s really a work out at this point. I arrived at the summit & the Cosmic restaurant at about 11:40. The restaurant was closed but would be open over the weekend. It was still nice to eat lunch and enjoy the view. If you do this hike don’t miss going inside the 100” telescope to see the scope. It’s free and air conditioned. You will be in good company Albert Einstein visited in 1931.

I departed the summit at 12:15 pm. I did the loop so took a different trail down following AllTrails arriving back at my car at 2:45 pm. The app took me on a trail that drops in from the top of the parking lot and camp site. I didn’t have to climb back up the black top road I started on.

Since moving from Washington state this was my first hike of significance and the first hike of the Six Pack. Really nice hike 85% under tree cover.

Note. There are rustic toilets available on the way up (You will have to be brave) Nothing on the way down.
