We finally made it on top of Mt. Wilson! It was a long hike with over 4,000ft of elevation gain. We started at 9am and hike leisurely up Mt. Wilson. We took a break at 3.5 miles and started the hardest part of climb afterwards. As usual my husband was struggling but he is a tough cookie we both made it to the top although he thinks it was lame that cars can go up and down there. We took our time at the summit, ate our lunch and we checked the museum and telescope however it took us awhile to find the summit “summit” (which is where the sign is) but eventually did. We then started to descend but once took a wrong turn to the fire road and by that time the sun is setting and it is getting dark. We had lights but mine was really low on battery and eventually died. So, my husband gave me his and used his phone. As we quickly tried to descend it is getting darker and darker but I was not afraid because I know we are in the right way however 2 miles away from the trailhead we lost the trail and a nice camper leads us to the right way. Additionally, he told us that the ranger locks that gate at 8:00pm and it was already 7:30pm with 1.5 miles left. We hurried to our car and by 8:20 we are at our car luckily the ranger was not there and we get to come home safe and sound. The supposedly 14 miles hike became 17 miles with over 5,000ft of elevation gain and was completed in 10 hours including our water and snack breaks.
I am very proud of my husband because this is mentally and physically challenging for him. He was able to power through and finish the hike. At the moment his legs are sore but he was happy that we knock our first peak for the #sixpackofpeaks challenge.

Hiking is very fun for me. It is the only time that I am not thinking of anything but the “now”. Every struggles my husband and I go through these hikes makes our bond stronger and makes us a better hiker. I know one day we’ll look back at this and laugh at our rookie mistakes. On a side note he just bought me an etrex 30 on top of my fenix 6 and inreach. He’s making sure there would be no more wrong turns in the future LOL
