This was peak #5 for me in the challenge.  I was on the trail on Friday, May 7.  After being closed since last September due to the Bobcat Fire, I was excited to learn that hiking to the Mt Wilson summit was now allowed using the route that starts in Sierra Madre and goes through Little Santa Anita Canyon (I called the Angeles National Forest office and they confirmed that hiking this trail up to the summit was now allowed).  I found parking on the street at 10:30 am with no problems and it looked like there was still plenty of parking spots when I finished at 2:50 pm.  I read that it was required to turn your wheels to the curb to avoid a ticket so I did that.  Not sure if it’s true but it was easy enough to do.  As for the trail, it was straight up for 7 miles (!) and then straight down for 7 miles.  I thought the toughest section was mile 5.  There is one area with a rock slide and a downed tree that you have to climb over but it’s not bad.  As expected, everything at the summit was closed (cafe, restrooms, etc.).  Overall, beautiful weather and views throughout!  A lot of tree cover and shade.  A great alternative to the traditional route through Chantry Flats which is still closed.
