If you are hiking from Chantry Flats, then a side trip to Sturtevant Falls is a must (only about 2 miles in)! We started at 6 AM so we had the falls to ourselves for a great photo op.
The rest of the hike to the summit is pretty much in shaded areas with several dams. Halfway up we stopped at Camp Sturtevant where we played on the swing, and nice people offered us coffee and hot chocolate in the little lodge there. When the trail continues, it takes you past a “honeymoon cabin”. We took a quick peek inside (the “bride” was there, but smiled at us); it's very cozy~!
Great views at the summit, and lunch at the Cosmic Cafe (it's closed for the winter). More great views and photo ops in the parking lot, followed by a tiring 8-mile descent back to our cars.
I really like this hike (this was my 4th time, all from Chantry Flats) and will do it again (will try from Eaton Saddle) when the Cafe opens! Hike #3 of my 6POP challenge complete
