My husband and I had a great hike up to My Wilson! We got to the Chantry Flats parking lot at 6am. On a non-holiday Monday, there were only 2 other cars there. The weather was perfect, crisp and dry. We didn’t need headlamps or anything. The trail starts by hiking down a steep old paved road. It was peaceful hiking up the gully. We did find all the cabins interesting. Most of them looked like they hadn’t been use in years while others had flags hanging. Spruce Grove Camp ground was empty. I can’t imagine doing this hike as an overnight-er. Maybe if I wanted to test gear or something. I did think it was neat that they had both a fire pit and wood stove. Sturtevant Camp was a fun place to take a break. We relaxed for a bit on the huge swing before moving on. We didn’t see a soul until we got to the top, 5 hours after we started. At the summit there were a few trail runners and other people that drove up. We did see some hikers as we headed down Mt Wilson Trail/Winters Creek Trail. Our down hill hike back only took 3 hours. The Mt Wilson trail had many places that looked newly fixed and more areas we had to climb over/around fallen rock and trees. Not really a big deal. We did notice that the Sturtevant Trail was much prettier and had more rock formations ideal for resting or enjoying a snack. As for wildlife, the squirrels were out in force, running all over the place, which was fun to see. There were also a couple deer that were feeding just off the trail and didn’t really care about us. Overall a beautiful day!
