This hike is a relentless push to the summit; although the peak is at 3,648 ft, you will have gained approx. 4,000 ft in elevation due to the up and down nature of the trail. Start as early as possible, preferably 5 AM. The trailhead parking lot doesn't open until 8 AM, which is too late, in my opinion, as it will get hot really quick well before you reach the top (Note: the trail is closed in August due to extreme heat conditions). The views are spectacular and well worth the effort. Save some energy because you will gain about 800 ft in elevation on the way back down. When I hiked in April 2020, the privately owned Blue Sky Ranch adjacent to the road had fresh produce from their farms displayed for sale based on the honor system. I bought a $10 mixed bag of oranges, grapefruits, lemons and tangerines. Very juicy and sweet! Yes, they accept Venmo.
