Hike Log

Night Hike for Sunrise

Trailhead:

Devil’s Lake

Type of Hike:

Overnight

Trail Conditions:

Trail in good condition

ROAD:

Road suitable for all vehicles

Bugs:

Bugs were an annoyance

Snow:

Intermittent snow – not hard to cross

Left the trailhead around 9PM, false summit after midnight, camped at the top. Other hikers started reaching summit around 4:30AM.

Moon set early so stars were good and meteor shower with peaks of 4+/min. Breezy night, blue bird day, visibility is good but some haze, can see North St. Helens but no Rainier.

Couple snowfields to cross or go around. Trail still well traveled with multiple paths below Wilson and through cinders.

If you've done this as a day hike already, I'd recommend catching the sunrise by either camping or starting between 12-2 depending on your pace.
