This was a tough hike on a steep fire road all the way up to the tower.  The crushed lava road-base was very nice under my sore feet after hiking Humphreys Peak yesterday.  And the views were incredible!  The Grand Canyon rim was visible and Sunset Crater and the lava flow were awesome as were the yellowing Aspen trees against the black lava backdrop.  Nice, tough hike!
