This hike is fun all year but I especially like to hike it when there is snow on the trail. It was a sunny and cool day when my buddy and I started from the ranger station but clouds rolled in and we even had a brief snow storm. The trail was uncrowded and we had the summit to ourselves for a time, which is rare on a Saturday.
Micro-spikes made the hike a lot safer and even though I saw some hardy hikers in sneakers it is a lot more fun if you have the right foot gear. Gators too.
Saw a couple of campers looking slightly blue, (burrr). But the cold temps made it easy to stay on top of the snow most of the time.
