{The day started rough, as my SUV battery died and I couldn’t start my car. These hikes, you need all the time you can get. I had to re-group to get going…and switch vehicles. } but the hike must go on~ so…here we go.

Well well well, hiking and post holing in snow is a humbling experience. Definitely giving credit to all you hard core winter ❄️ hiking ????/mountaineering people out there. We ( Heather and I) did Ontario Peak -8,696 elevation. It was a gorgeous weather day. Perfect, high of 60, and no wind, we didn’t even use our jackets much.

The challenge was because it was so warm the snow was getting soft in some areas and we post holed over 7 /13-14 miles. Last year Mira and I hiked all three summits in one day Cucamunga, Big Horn and Ontario. Yesterday it took us ALL day to complete Ontario in the snow. I will never forget both experiences. I ended up cruising on my butt down one side of a mountain ???? and Heather started sliding and did a double flip down the same mountain. Thankfully we both lived to laugh about it. The theme of our day was post holing. Definitely not for the faint of heart. Such a big work out (burned @5,000 calories) and glad we survived this adventure. We were the only ones on the trail to Ontario the entire day, and had the summit to ourselves. Nearly 10 hours moving time and 11 hours-we hardly stopped for breaks. Post holing takes forever when your climbing out of holes thigh high. Absolutely a day I will never forget. All y’all winter athletes are bada$$ indeed! Ahh post hole, post hole, post hole ????-theme of the day. #hikerbabesmalibu #friendsthathik #hikemoreworryless #explore #Friendship #hikerlife #sixpackofpeaks #52HikeChallenge #socalhiker

  1. Thanks for all the insight. My girlfriend and I have been waiting for the snow to melt a little to try this one and after reading your post, I am glad we have been waiting. Not ready to do any rolls down the mountain at my age(50) lol! Be safe out there and see you on the trails!!!!
