We started the day at 5:30am- the parking lot was already packed. We noticed smoke early in the day but it had also been there yesterday and appeared under control. We made good time to the top and enjoyed our celebratory sandwiches like normal. I went to take part two of my celebration at the top, which is a nap, but was woken by my husband after a few short moments. He said he was concerned about the smoke growing larger. I agreed. We then hustled down as the billowing plume grew. We made it down safely but as we stepped over the trail head entrance a police car pulled up to let us know they were evacuating the park. We then went back to our Airbnb in Forest falls to learn they were evacuating the town.
