I camped at Vivian Creek on Saturday night making it officially a backpack trip, but the Sunday hike was basically like starting from the car, as my camp was only 1 mile in on the trail. My new lightweight tent allowed a lighter weight set up overall, but that thing (w/no bug net) allowed a squadron of mosquitoes to turn the vestibule into a mosquito rave. I did get some sleep after the sun went down. Some deer visited as I packed up in the morning. I went up from the creek campground (7180 elevation) to the summit and back Sunday. I did get altitude sickness, but didn't realize that was why I felt sick. I did realize on the decent, I laid down (finding cover on that moonscape above the tree line is tough) and rested. A prepared hiker gave me some pill for altitude sickness and I felt better. I did also start descending. I felt better and booked it home. I was at the car by 5 pm. Long day. Although not all captured by this Strava, 18.5 miles – 5700 ft. of total ascent, 11500 ft elevation high point!
