On Monday, President's Day, after the Saturday hike at Piestewa and the Valentine's Day summit at Wasson Peak, I decided to do Flatiron before heading home. This time I made it to Lost Dutchman's State Park very early and had no trouble being admitted into the park as it was before sunrise and there were plenty of parking slots. I parked my car at the closest day hike parking lot for Siphon Draw and started from there. Despite the early start around 6:30 am, I did not reach Flatiron until around 10:00 am in the morning. Due to the late arrival at the Flatiron, I ditched a plan to do an extra hike later for Camelback Mountain and instead just dozed off at the Flatiron. I stayed there for 2 hours instead of my usual 1 hour. Going down was slow in part because of the number of hikers coming up and heading down and I opted to let the others pass as I decided to take my time. Despite my slow movement I made it back to the parking lot sometime around 4:00 pm and with that, the Flatiron was my fifth peak in the Challenge. I determined to bag Camelback at a later date.
