I worked at the Ski resort in 93-94 ski season had haven't been back since. So, when we decided to do this challenge, Mount Baldy was on the list for sure. We started of early in the morning from the base of the ski resort up the short dirt road to the main dirt road to the notch. It was a good start to the morning. We made it to the notch just has the sun was cresting over the peaks to the east. We then started the climb to the peak. Devil's Backbone was windy which was nice to keep the bugs at bay. What a great hike along the backbone with all of the views on both sides. Made it to the top with a few breaks, had a snack, took some pictures and enjoyed the surrounding views. Because of the wind it was refreshing, and did wonders to cool you off for the climb.
The hike down was uneventful, easy going where you can really take in the views. The best part of the day was that the notch was open for lunch and a ice cold beer. The notch hasn't changed since the last time I worked there, which was nice to see. In remembering back to when I worked there we road the chair back down to the parking lot which was a great trip (ride) down memory lane. Can't wait to do this hike again.
