Mt Mansfield is the highest mountain in Vermont.
I started my hike at Underhill State Park. Took CCC road (2.2 miles) and then Maple Ridge Trail (1.5 miles to the Forehead, one of Mt Mansfield’s summits). Maple Ridge Trail is very steep, there are few spots on the trail that requires a bit of rock climbing. Almost the whole trail is above treeline, so head protection and sunscreen are a must. After reaching Forehead I took Long Trail to the Chin, which is the highest peak of Mt. Mansfield (approx. 1.4 miles). Summit, as well as the most part of Maple Ridge trail and whole Long trail, offer great 3600 views. On a clear day, you can see Lake Chaplin and New York State on the west and Mt. Washington on the east. To come back to the Underhill State Park I took Sunset Ridge Trail (approx. 4 miles) which is also steep and rocky.
Some data from the hike:
Total distance: 9.6 miles
Total ascent: 4.26 miles
Total descent 3.53 miles
Elevation gain: 3086 feet
Duration: 04:03:23
