Started at the break of dawn up from Icehouse Canyon Trailhead (get there early to get a parking spot).  There were permits at the trailhead and I filled one out but many people did not so I don't know if they enforce it or not.  The first mile is not bad through heavily forested section, passing many cabins.  Once the switchbacks start they don't stop for 2.5 miles to the Saddle.  About mile 2 runners, yes runners!, passed me on the ascent.  Once you hit the Saddle there are several paths but they are clearly marked and there is a map if you really need help.  There are six peaks and Baldy accessible from the Saddle but I just did Cucamonga.  The peak is about 2.5 miles and the first mile or so is flat and downhill before it steeply climbs a series of more switchbacks.  Be mindful as you near the peak, there is a marker (not clear) pointing the way to Cucamonga; some people keep going straight instead of right for a mile or longer before realizing the mistake.  The views at the peak are amazing. San B, San G, and San J are all seen in the distance above the morning haze.
