Started from South Fork TH on 8/24/19 at 6:20a.m. The air temp was perfect. Coverage was spotty following the wildfire. Water was available in the creek leading from Dry/Dollar Lake. We camped at Trail Flat and refilled our water from Lodgepoll. Plenty of water in Dry Lake with plenty of shade for a great rest stop. We reached Trail Flat in the early afternoon and were permit checked by a ranger. The area has no water, was a bit windy and very shaded. This combo kept the bugs to a minimum. Started out on 8/25 at 5:00a.m. with a pre-dawn ascent to the summit. What a beautiful experience! However, the weather was much warmer. After having breakfast at the summit we took the Dollar Lake trail back to South Fork. Though shorter, the trail is rough in some sections which slowed our pace. Though two miles longer, I would have much rather taken the Dry Lake trail back. The ease of travel would have made up for the two extra miles. All-in-all, it was a great weekend!
