I decided to go to Santiago Peak on the shortest day of the year. I did it from the Joplin trail which is a lot less traveled and also a lot more challenging than from the typical Maple Springs approach. I believe holy Jim  is still closed. The last 2 miles driving is on a dirt road so don’t go right after it rains. The worst part of the trail is about mile 1 to mile 2. It’s so steep on sections and eroded as well. I had to use microspikes on the way down.
