I had planned this hike as my last summit, however had to make it my first due to all the snow on the other peaks. I didn’t feel ready for such a long trek, as it was going to be the longest and tallest peak I’ve summited. I began this journey in January as a way to put myself first and re-align with mind, body and soul. I neglected my fitness for quite some time, although I’ve always considered myself an athlete. I started training in January by going on a hike every week and told myself to just get outside. I set a goal to start the peaks in March. It ended up being a blessing that the other peaks were covered in snow bc this hike was a perfect way to start this challenge.

It begins with a pretty steep incline and steadily climbs most of the way. There are a few nice breaks with a stream about halfway through. The day we went was beautiful with temperatures in the mid 50s.

The sign was missing at the summit, which was incredibly crowded. We set ourselves off to the side by the towers and had our snacks. The towers are def. an eye sore and loud which takes away from the natural beauty of the location.  The view was partially cloudy, but still so beautiful. There were a lot of off roaders at the top.

I highly recommend trekking poles, if you have them – the descent was incredibly steep and hard on the knees/toes.

We had to park at the main parking lot off Trabuco Canyon Rd. (a day pass/adventure pass is required – we didn’t have one and didn’t get ticketed). We walked about 2 miles to the trailhead bc we didn’t want to chance parking on private property, plus the road was a bumpy dirt road, not best for low profile cars. The walk back to the car after putting in 17 miles was tiring – mentally prepare if you decide this route.
