Santiago Peak – Before it was a Peak

On February 17th, I joined the hiking group 3H on my first ever trek to Santiago Peak. The drive to the Trailhead was quite a distance from where I live, which is why I hadn’t done it before. The views of the nearby rolling hills were beautiful. Though I did not feel as though I was out in the wilderness, it was nice to see the city views beyond the hills. The last stretch to the summit was a bit frustrating as a Jeep club was gathering that Saturday at the top. We had to keep stepping aside as multiple Jeep’s passed by. We even stopped to assist a motorcycle rider who had fallen and had his bike land on his leg.
Though this hike was not my favorite, it was a nice change of pace. I would definitely do this trail again, but next time a weekday would be preferable to avoid the trucks going up the dirt road near the summit.
