Drove through the gates at the visitor center around 6:45. The road up is dusty and heavily used by OHV and dirtbikes. Definitely recommend high clearance vehicle once you pass the visitor center! IF you park and start at the visitor center, add another 8-9 miles to the hike. I don't recommend, as there was quite a bit of trucks/jeeps heading up as we were on the way back down in the truck, if we had hiked that portion we'd have been sucking dust the entire way back to the car! Was pretty quiet heading up at 7 am though. Made it to Main Divide Parking lot and hit the trail shortly after 7. Hike was in the shade for the first hour or so, cool breeze so even in the sun it wasn't killer today. Got passed by a few dirtbikes and a mountainbiker on the way up. Views are beautiful from the top! That being said, now that this one is knocked off the list, I don't think I'd do it a 2nd time, just due to the OHV traffic going up and down.
