I left Maiden Peak for my last hike, as Jeff and I were heading out from nearby Waldo Lake on the Oregon Timber Trail for bike packing on our mountain bikes. The trail up Maiden Peak, while a bit steep in spots, was in perfect condition and a real pleasure to hike. After South Sister, it felt much easier, and would make a great training hike to get ready for the more challenging South Sister. Maiden Peak, being near the Cascade Lakes area, is also a great hike to combine with some outstanding lakeside camping (Waldo and the Little Cultus were particularly inviting), and has a very beautiful mix of Central Oregon and Willamette Valley style forest. Being able to hike with Jeff and new friends, Jayne and Karen, made the hike all the more enjoyable!
