Hike Log

Scramble to the top

Trailhead:

Humber Park

Type of Hike:

Day hike

Trail Conditions:

Trail in good condition

ROAD:

Road suitable for all vehicles

Bugs:

Bugs were not too bad

Snow:

Snow free

Took about 7.5 hours. About 5 miles in you are surrounded in what feels like FernGully. Gradual incline throughout. The last 100 feet require you to scramble boulders to reach the peak. By far, the prettiest hike I have done so far out of the peaks.

  1. Shannon, how were the smoke conditions from the fires over by Gorgonio? I was thinking of doing this one this past weekend but went to Baldy because I heard the smoke was bad over at San Jacinto.

    1. Hi Stephen, sorry I didn’t see your comment previously. San Jacinto was great! We didn’t have any issues when we went two weeks ago. Did you make it down there? I want to do San Gorgonio but its still closed.

      1. I did not make it up there yet. San Gorgonio is a beast! I did it earlier this year from the South Fork Trail. If it does open back up and you have the chance to do it, I recommend the South Fork Trail and come back via the loop. It is longer than Vivian Creek, but more beautiful and you get glimpses of the mountain early. I’ve done Vivian Creek twice, and even though it is shorter, it is stepper (especially the first 2 miles) and the scenery isn’t as great until mile 7ish when you get your first look at the mountain. Start early if you get a chance! If you have any questions about this one, hit me up!-Steve
