Hike Log

Sherman on a Saturday

Trailhead:

Mount Shermain

Type of Hike:

Day hike

Trail Conditions:

Trail in good condition

ROAD:

Road rough but passable

Bugs:

No bugs

Snow:

Snow free

Coming in the road was pretty rough for the last 2 miles and there was private property you had to get through so you couldn't just park on the side of the road.  Just had to take it easy and I got up there in my Civic.  Starting out you got to see a nice abandon mine, think it was gold but just a guess.  Very crowded first time doing a 14er on a Saturday and there was a bunch of groups.  Everyone was super friendly, and talkative.  Would imagine this 14er would be very difficult when there is snow but without it, it was pretty easy going.  Just walking up the ridge didn't take long about 2 and half hours and went down jogging this time.  Think my legs are starting to get use to my crazy 14ers now.  Very cool 14er, will definitely think about taking my oldest on this one since so far its been the least difficult of them so far.

  1. It’s crazy all the old mine and mining equipment all over Sherman and Horseshoe. Also crazy — how high you start these hikes.

    1. This one was around the treeline couldn’t make in my 2wd all the way to the trailhead. Think around 11500ish feet was starting for me. There was another completely demolished building at the start of crest think it was around 13k ft. There was even a very small post in the ground think it was for a powerline. Always learning something on these hikes.
