I figured with 9 bagged peaks of the 12, I should be good to go. At about mile 5, I cramped up in three spots and almost fell down if it weren't for my poles. By some miracle (coconut water, a banana, and pretzels) I was able to slowly summit in 6.5 hours. I took about 30 minutes at the peak to rest & eat, then blazed down in 3 hours with a water refill stop at the creek by Limber Pines campground.
I'm not gonna front, San B kicked my @$$ but I needed it to put my ego, nutrition, and fitness in check for San G looming ahead.
Started: 6:40am, Finished 4:40pm.
I had a similar experience the first time I attempted San Bernardino Peak in 2010. It’s not the hardest hike — I think San Gorgonio wins that position — but every hike is different because of all the variables that go into it… temperature, sleep, hydration, etc.
Glad you made it!
