Newbie mistake of taking my little dog with me hiking in a hot day. Trail started fine early morning but within 2-3 hrs the lack of shade made the effects of the sun unbearable. My poor dog trekked on but demanded multiple stops and lots of water. The last mile to the peak was a vertical climb, loose soil and rocks and just terrible. The summit tried to make up for it and it took me awhile to accept its apology. Going down was a nightmare for poor Chance and I had to carry her in my backpack. She forgave me even when the temp said 93 degrees in the car as we headed home. My water wasn’t enough and thank God my dear new friend Tina shared some of her Gatorade that gave me the last push to the end.
