This was my SIXTH PEAK!!!
Santiago peak was stunning today. Being new to hiking, I was surprised by the rough road to the trailhead, but thankfully my friend and I had her Subaru and were able to make it up the 40-minute, 7-mile long winding bumpy mountain road.
We started at 6 am with a gorgeous sunrise over the parking lot and started heading up the fire road to the peak. We made it to the summit around 8 am, passing the people working at the top. We rested at the summit and took some pics with the American flag at the overlook before heading back down. The burn zone was prevelant, but the wildflowers were stunning.
We wanted to try and summit Modjeska Peak along our hike back, but we're prevented due to a massive trail outage (previous rock slide) on the ascent.
We passed a few dirt bike riders and working vehicles on the fire road. We were the only hikers this morning.
