Trail snow-covered at times – Gear and expertise recommended

Started the day early driving out to the trailhead at sunrise, was parked and on the trail by 7am. Clear day, about 25 degrees. Trail was fairly clear with some snow and ice covering it until sages ravine, once on the north-side of the mountain, I started encountering serious amounts of ice. It was clear that the warm temperatures from earlier in the week, had caused a lot of melt water which then froze. The trail was nearly impassable in places, without spikes it would have been impossible to keep going, but I was prepared so it was fun. Got to the top by 9:45. The ice was cleared up at the summit, it was clear with not too much wind so I stopped to enjoy the view and have a coffee. Climbed down via the AT on the south side of the mountain, there was practically no ice on that side so it was much faster going down. Finished by 11:30.
