At times my hubris gets the best of me and the universe finds a way to humble me. My friend and I decided to complete our first peak of the 6-pack of peaks challenge a few weeks prior to trekking out today. Instead of resting and having fresh legs for the ~2000 ft elevation gain over 2 and a half miles, I cycled, did leg day, then went to yoga with my wife on Friday, scheduled a HIIT class Saturday, and had the bright idea to still hike Sunday thinking “2000 ft isn't that bad.” Well, Turtlehead had me going at a turtles pace as my hamstrings screamed at me for doing so much activity prior to the hike.

Overall, it was a wonderful hike with beautiful views! Roughly the first mile had mild elevation gain, but there is a bit of a climb for the last mile and a half. The trail had clear signs through the first half then fresh spray painted arrows to help guide you up the back half. Weather was in the 70s, but felt warm in the sun and there was plenty of other hikes on the trail with us. We spotted plenty of birds, some catipillar nests, and blooming flowers. A dog named Walter was at the peak with his owner and seems to love the view and put us to shame with how speedy he was able to make it back down.
