This was my third time hiking Camelback mountain, and the first time I've done it solo. The first two times I hiked it, I hiked up one side and down the other and then took an Uber back to my car. This is a fun way to hike the mountain to get to see both sides of it. For this hike though I stuck to the Echo Canyon trail. This trailhead has easier parking access and a bathroom- although you have to get here early to score a parking spot because they fill up fast! The other trailhead is in a private neighborhood and there is no parking lot- you have to park on the side of the road and take a mini hike to get to the trailhead. The Echo Canyon trailhead is steep pretty much the whole way up with a lot of scrambling on the second half of it. There are two sections that provide railings for more treacherous areas, and some built in “stairs” too. It is a workout to the top, it took me about an hour to hike up with minimal rest time, and half an hour to hike down. It was really windy at the summit, so I sat behind some rocks to block the wind while I had a snack. The trail is pretty well maintained, although you do need to be careful to stay on trail, otherwise you could find yourself walking off the side of the mountain. This is a heavily trafficked trail everyday of the week so get there early! Always a good hike at Camelback!
