Trail snow-covered at times – Gear and expertise recommended

I hiked this trail a few days after the polar vortex. There was a lot of snow and ice on the trail. Parking lot was not plowed but I was able to park on the street without getting a ticket . The undermountain trail was easy to follow and mellow . It was when I got to turning right onto paradise it became hard to navigate. It looked as though one other person took this route before me. The blazes on the trees were visible most of this route but at times I wouldn’t see them and relied on the previous persons footsteps. Once I hit the AT at .25 miles left the trail became extremely hard to navigate in the snow due to both the snow and blazes being white . I believe the previous hiker must of turned around due to the amount of ice . I no longer seen his footsteps .I had microspikes on but think crampons were necessary. I struggled up the ice . I required to rely on my gps to navigate as well. Once at Summit I wasn’t too impressed with the initial view . Post walking down the AT though the treeline opened up and I was able to see a amazing sunset . It was well worth the hike .
