We knew we were in for a challenge as the weather was predicted to be over 100 degrees. We got to the trailhead right before 7am and the lot and street was already full. I had never seen it so full. We ended parking down the road and had to hike up the road just to get to the trailhead. We were joined by countless of other hikers and the first mile up was just a continuous line of hikers. It wasn’t until about mile two that the crowd began to thin out But still crowded all the way to Icehouse Saddle. When we hit the trail to Cucamonga Peak we were finally alone. The trail to the peak was definitely the more difficult part of the trail and the last mile was most challenging as we were no longer shaded. We brought extra water for this reason. The final climb to the peak was challenging which made it most gratifying to conquer. Once on the peak I was disappointed to not be able to locate a Peak benchmark. We searched for 15 minutes to no luck. We ended taking some pictures with the wooden marker and headed on down. Going down was equally challenging but we purposely went at a slow steady pace to enjoy the scenery. Overall Cucamonga Peak was challenging but familiar having peaked a few other peaks off the same trail up to Icehouse Saddle. We look forward for the next Peak challenge.
