Hike Log

South Sister Birthday Climb

Trailhead:

Devils Lake

Type of Hike:

Day hike

Trail Conditions:

Trail in good condition

ROAD:

Road suitable for all vehicles

Bugs:

Bugs were not too bad

Snow:

Intermittent snow – not hard to cross

Some snow through the woods at the beginning. Some snow on the plains near Moraine Lake, melting FAST, and a few snowfields below Lewis Lake. The red mile is snow free and Teardrop Pool is the most melted and vibrant blue I have ever seen it. We started at midnight to beat the heat. And we summited for my boyfriend and Six Pack partners birthday. Great climb. Hiked with another good summit buddy for his first summit and ran into a bunch of other Oregon Hikers and Climbers buds. All the fun was had!

  1. Beautiful photos, Aimee! I’ve typically hiked this in July, but never when it’s been so hot. Smart move starting at midnight!
