Two days prior I had finished the 2019 SoCal Six-Pack at Cucamonga.  This time I was doing the first of the remaining six unhiked peaks for the SoCal challenge.  Due to time constraints, I regretfully decided I could not join a planned group hike in July 13 for Gorgonio from South Fork Trail, so I decided to do my Gorgonio hike one week earlier. And this one would take me up the familiar  Vivian Creek Trail. The weather was sunny. Unlike the Cucamonga Peak, I had a less tardy start at 8:00 am. Although the trailhead was full, the Big Falls lot had enough parking space so I parked there and then at around 8:00 am I started hiking from the trailhead proper of Vivian Creek. This time unlike last year's Gorgonio hike, I took a slow leisurely pace going up. The water on Mill Creek was flowing but it wasn't wide or deep enough to get me wet. I took my time up the first mile of switchbacks. The water at Vivian Creek itself was flowing strong. At around 10:00 am I reached the junction to Halfway Camp where I briefly chatted with a group of backpackers headed to camp at the summit. Between Halfway Camp to High Creek Camp, I proceeded at a slow but steady pace. I got to High Creek at around 11:38 am. I should note that during this hike, the bugs were out with a vengeance and I found them annoying. In the end, I just ignored the bugs and kept on my way but the bugs seemed to be more this time than I have ever remembered it in my previous hikes on this trail. The weather was still sunny and it was that way for the rest of the hike. I took a meal break at High Creek Camp and rested before resuming my trek at 12:00 noon. This one I maintained my slow and steady pace but I started to take more frequent breaks. It took me an hour to get past that group of switchbacks to the overlook with the view of San Jacinto in the distance. I took a few minutes there and then continued my way. On the way up I kept taking frequent breaks and either passed or got passed by another group of hikers who were also taking their time. There were two patches of snow near where the trail goes above the treeline but these were easily avoided and I did not need to bring out my microspikes which I had brought with me.  I got to the Divide Trail at around 3:00 pm and then proceeded at a slow pace to the summit. When I got there, although there were still quite a number of hikers, it wasn't as many as they would be if it were 12:00 noon. I took a hiker's photos who returned the favor and took my photos. I rested at the summit until 4:00. At the summit there was a substantial amount of snow on the plateau but none at the summit itself nor on the trail although I surmised there might be snow for the hikers who came up and were heading down South Fork Trail.  I headed down and two hours later I got back at High Creek Camp. It was around that time that my water ran out but since I had my pump filter with me, I simply refilled my hydration pack from the stream at High Creek and then at around 6:15 pm later I resumed my way. The weather was still good but this time I powered hike the way down at a much faster pace. I tried to get down before the daylight ended. I made it. I got back to Vivian Creek trailhead at around 8:25 pm and although the sun had set, there was still enough light to make it back to my car at the Big Falls lot without having to deploy my headlight.  My hike for San Gorgonio was done.
