Trail snow-covered at times – Gear and expertise recommended

This was my first six pack hike. We stayed the night at Bear Canyon Tail Camp and hiked to the parking lot to drop our big packs before heading up the Colby Canyon Trail. Colby Canyon is a pretty steep climb with some switchbacks but nicely maintained. Trail was pretty clear of snow till we reached strawberry spur trail where we took the firebreak the back way up strawberry peak. We should have know better not to attempt the last push up to the summit when we saw that all the footprints in the snow stopped. Scrambling would be an understatement for this route. It's extremely dangerous this way especially in the snow, and I don't recommend it even without snow. We definitely should have turned around. We had to exit at Redbox as the decent back the way we came would have been a death wish without climbing gear. We had a nice little extra 5 miles walk on the road to get back to our car thanks to exiting at Redbox but I like living so it was worth the walk.
