Strawberry Peak is a lot more than what you expect. I went to hike this peak with my 9-year-old and we started our hike at around 9 AM. We had cover most of the way until we got to the Lawlor Saddle. Up to that point, it ascends gradually and you gain about 700 ft in over 2.5 miles. From the saddle, it's a very steep hike gaining about 1000 feet in less than a mile. It is very steep and my son was using his hands in most of the places. As you scramble your way up, the sharp needles from Yucca plants irritate you. There are at least three false peaks before you get to the peak and the views were ok. There must be awesome views on a clear day but we were not fortunate enough. Going downhill up to the saddle was again challenging. The rest of the way is easy. We did not have any shade going back as it was past noon. I recommend poles and long pants. Also, the trail registers are all filled up, so take a new one with you.
