Trail snow-covered at times – Gear and expertise recommended

February 6th we started our way up to summit Mount Greylock in North Adams, MA via the Cheshire Harbor Trail up to the Appalachian Trail. Originally planned on summiting February 5th to do a Sunrise Summit but due to conditions we did our summit a day later. This was my Fourth Summit of Mount Greylock for the Six Pack of Peaks: New England Challenge and First Summit for 2022

Weather perfect but was a bit chilly. We had blue skies and clear with a few high clouds for our hike. Trail was ice covered by snow but nothing deep unless stepping off the trail. Trail had snow/ice so we recommend good traction such as micro spikes and snowshoes. We used spikes for much of the hike and up at summit but carried snowshoes in case. If bare booting would be more of a challenge.

Summit had some wind and at times chilly but provided us with some amazing 360 views and were able to see mountains way off in the distance. One in particular would be Mount Monadnock which will be one of our next Summits. We stopped at Thunderbolt Shelter used for emergency overnights that had a small fire going and gave us a place to warm up and grab a snack before heading back to the Trailhead.

It was beautiful to see the ice and snow on the trees and on the trail. Made you feel you were walking in a winter wonderland.

Definitely recommend this hike to others and worth the trip. Definitely be prepared.
