Hike Log

Sutton-ly we were at the Top with a Dog!

Trailhead:

The fence (SE side of mountain) with the friendly dog

Type of Hike:

Day hike

Trail Conditions:

Trail in good condition

ROAD:

Road suitable for all vehicles

Bugs:

No bugs

Snow:

Intermittent snow – not hard to cross

Started late in the day and was greeted by the trail dog we named, “Red.”  Skies were partly sunshine and clouds.  The trail was 90% snow and 10% mud.  We wore traction on the way down, but not up.  It's a very nice trail and we had some fun on the cliffs just before you get to the EAST end of the mountain where the elevation marker denotes where the summit is located.  Almost stayed for the sunset, but made our way down as it was getting cold.

Had a lot of fun recovering a coat/gloves/sunglasses for a fellow Six Pack Peak Challenger.  Was able to return the goods to her in Prineville….was the best way to top of our first peak challenge.

We stayed in Mitchel for one night and made a mini-retreat out of the challenge.  Had a blast in Mitchell and then the next day took our time to explore the Painted hills……

  1. Great photos! Looks like a great weekend getaway.
By the way, the ranch dog’s actual name (per its tag) is “Patch 2.0”. He hiked up to the summit with me twice last year, and if you look back through the other hike logs for Sutton, it looks like he joined MANY people on their hike. He’s an honorary Six-Pack of Peaks Ambassador! In fact, I think I’ll give him a Six-Pack of Peaks dog bandana if I see him this Saturday.

    1. Thanks Jeff for that info….. he made the hike so much fun! I’ll tell the BATS about Patch” why the 2.0?
That would be so cool for him to get a bandana…Take a picture for us!! (I wanted to bring him home!!)
