When you get to Stintson beach, turn right by the Fire station; the trail head starts right next to the community center. You can park along the street across from the trail head. Plan on ~6.5 hrs round trip from Stintson beach to the peak.

This was the easiest 16mi. hike I ever did. The start of the hike on Matt Davis trail is steep, with lots of stairs cut into the trail. There are several switch backs w/ an easy grade between them to allow you to catch your breath.

When you come out of the forest, the trail gently climbs a beautiful grassy slope and there are awesome views. When you get to the Pantoll Ranger Station, get onto the Old Stage Road. The grade is very gentle and actually starts out paved.

At mile 3.9, you will come to the West Point Inn. This is a great place to stop and admire the incredible views. You can also grab a bite to eat or refill your water bottle. Behind the Inn, you can pick up the Old Railroad Grade and it is 1.7mi. to the Eastern Peak parking lot.

At the parking lot, there is a restroom (albeit quite odiferous) in case you feel the call of nature. From the parking lot it is .7mi to the Eastern Peak.

  1. Great visibility! One suggested modification… try going up the Dipsea Trail >> Steep Ravine Trail to Pantoll, then return via Matt Davis. 😉
