Decided to bag Santiago peak this morning, my tenth peak of the six pack of peaks challenge. Santiago peak is the tallest peak in Orange County at 5,689′. I also bagged Modjeska peak (5,495′) as it was only a slight detour. Since the Holy Jim trail is still closed due to fire damage, I needed to find an alternate route. I decided on Maple Springs Truck Trail, which is about 27 miles round trip from the trailhead. Well, there is no way I'm hiking that far in one day for this peak, so I drove 3 miles up the paved part of the trail and another 2.5 miles up the dirt road until I found a nice spot to park. On the way to the peak I was able to spot out all of the tallest peaks in socal, Lake Matthews and Catalina Island. My knee is only about 80%, but I was still able to keep up a good pace.

12.2 miles RT with 2,398′ of elevation gain in 4:06:04. 10/19/2019
