Snowfields to cross – could be difficult

This peak was personally the most satisfying peak that my girlfriend and I had completed. It was definitely the most strenuous but enjoyed every bit of it. After a couple miles in while we were walking across the plateau and looking ahead at what we were about to climb, we started laughing a little bit because looking at it in that perspective gives you a real sense about what we are going to climb. There was a lot more people (and Dogs) then I initially thought there would be. Once we got to the point where The Lewis Glacier was right above us, due to the amount of hikers and how the trail “bottlenecks” right at the top, it took a little bit of time to reach the glacier. Once we made it, the glacier was surreal. The water was so blue and clear at the same time it seemed fake. After hanging out here for a couple minutes and staring down the last mile or so of the hike up to the peak, we decided to start back up and finish this thing up. This part was by far the hardest. Due to the time of year we went there was quite a bit of snow coverage on this part of the mountain. some parts were about knee high in snow and if you went on parts that were packed down it got quite icy. This part of the hike took the longest and felt like it would never end lol. When we finally reached the top, because of the snow, Teardrop lake was not visible. As we made our way across the crater to the other side where the highest point was, it was such an amazing feeling that we were this close to being able to say we summitted South Sister. After we made our way across and hiked up the last bit of the peak, the views were absolutely remarkable. Words cannot describe what we could see. It was just an awesome experience and knowing we made it to the top of the mountain that we thought we would never climb was a feeling that I will never forget. After taking in the views for a while we decided to start our trek back down the mountain to officially complete The South Sister.
