I led 16 members of my #HikeBeyondTheHills crew and took an ambitious and grueling day hike to summit 2 peaks, Strawberry and Mt. Wilson, in one day for our 5th Annual #SixPacksOfPeaks Challenge. It took us 10 hours to hike both peaks, totaling 15 miles with 5,100’ total elevation gained.
⛰Our first peak, Strawberry Peak (6,165’), was a total of 7.5 miles with 2,609’ elevation gained. We crossed three different “false peaks” and a technical climb with a bit of rock scrambling to the top.
⛰Our 2nd peak was Mount Wilson (5,712’), which was grueling and challenging totaling 8 miles with 2,500’ total elevation gained. We lost elevation as we descended for the first 4 miles, following the swollen West Fork San Gabriel River, then a grueling ascend to Strayn Cyn, all the way to Mt. Wilson. As the canyons were lush and beautiful, we had to cross about 18 overflowing creeks and crawl under/above about 5 fallen trees along the trail.
