Hiked Sizer with kids (7 and 9), so we decided to break this up into an overnight trip. We got a late start on Friday and started at Monument trail near Henry Coe headquarters. We chose to complete this as an out and back rather than doing the loop. We hiked 4.4 miles to Sada Springs campsite the first night. There were a couple pit toilets along the way. And this time of year there was water to filter at the creek at the bottom of Blue Ridge, and spring water at Sada Springs campsite. There were also a ton of ticks. Bring spray if you can and tick check often.

The hike was certainly hard, and made a little more uncomfortable with packs. I’d been to Henry Coe before, but never this far in. It was very beautiful and the kids loved the creek crossing. I appreciated the wide trails to keep us away from ticks, but I can’t help but feel the park was designed around roads, rather than a more hiker friendly trail system. Despite the difficulty, we all completed the journey- even our 7 year old! Summit was beautiful and we all felt accomplished… even with a tough journey back.
